  • Have a broad understanding of the complex, health-related needs of both adults and children who experience incarceration, including the reasons and risk factors for preventable death after incarceration
  • Recognize that incarceration is a setting through which vulnerable members of the community pass, such that ‘prison health is public health’
  • Appreciate the importance of measurable standards, routine monitoring, and independent research to drive continuous improvement in the scope and quality of healthcare for people who experience incarceration
