Combatting antimicrobial resistance through community antimicrobial stewardship

In this talk, the Community Antimicrobial Stewardship team will provide an overview of recent antimicrobial use and antimicrobial resistance surveillance trends in British Columbia, discuss latest research highlights, and provide an update on ongoing program activities. The presentation will highlight the importance of community stewardship efforts and discuss future directions for antimicrobial stewardship efforts.

Learning objectives:

  • Examine recent surveillance trends of antimicrobial use and resistance in BC
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the latest research highlights of the program, including program cost-benefit analysis and the link between infant antibiotic use and atopic disease
  • Understand the importance of community-based antimicrobial stewardship and multi-faceted approach of the Community Antimicrobial Stewardship program​
