Event Details

About the Event

The Division of Emergency Medicine at BC’s Children Hospital is hosting its last Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS) course on Friday November 25th, 2022 at Surrey Memorial Hospital Simulation Centre. The American Academy of Pediatrics will be sunsetting the APLS course on November 30th and introducing a new more basic course with a wider audience target base. The APLS course is a simulation-based pediatric resuscitation course that focuses on management of critically-ill children in the first hour of their presentation to the Emergency Room. Participants use simulation team-based crisis resource management principles and take part in high fidelity simulation-based pediatric resuscitation scenarios and skills stations. Some core content objectives are presented in didactic style. Topics include initial assessment, PALS algorithms, airway management, respiratory failure, shock, maltreatment, ER radiology, surgical emergencies, trauma, transport, and toxicological and metabolic emergencies.
