About the Event
Are you a maternity care provider on Vancouver Island? Join us in Nanaimo at the Vancouver Island Conference centre the last weekend of September.
Dr Andrew Kotaska, coming from Yellowknife, is going to give an open public presentation on the Friday evening, September 28th, at the Shaw Auditorium (Within the conference centre).
Dr Kotaska’s presentation is on managing labor, issues and ethics around informed consent and refusal. This is a very timely and popular issue, as he explores ethical issues surrounding maternity care, roles in decision making, and what constitutes acceptable risk, and for whom. Part of this is the controversy around our rising C-section rates and when to allow women to labor. While this is directed specifically at maternity health care providers (nursing, family doctors, midwives, obstetricians), it is felt that it would also be most interesting for the public including women of child bearing ages/planning to have children, or those working in areas of public health or women’s studies.
Attached is a copy of the presentation poster. Please pass this on and invite people as you wish. The presentation will be 60-90 minutes, and I believe that it will be of interest to many of you.
